Four men. One Community Centre. Zero room to hide.

“Thursdays, curry night. Curry and a pint for a fiver. Go at five thirty, home by ten. Beat my mum up for a while. Bed by ten thirty.”

A group of convicted domestic abusers sits down to confront the truth in a perpetrator programme. Leading them is Jen — a facilitator thrown in at the deep end and determined to make a difference. Change is messy, resistance runs deep and as breakthroughs blur into breakdowns, what’s done behind closed doors starts spilling into the real world.

Sharp, unsettling, and laced with dark humour, Bindweed by Martha Loader is a gripping play that digs into the roots of abuse, asking the questions no one wants to answer: can people really change—and who pays the price if they don’t?

Winner of the Judges Award at the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2022.

ATG INSPIRE present Bindweed in an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books. All cast made up from alumni across the Ambassadors Academies.

Trigger warnings: themes of violence against women and children. For further trigger warning information, please email westendINSPIRE@atgentertainment.com.
